I'm a Brazilian-British artist working across video, installation, painting and textiles. I use a feminist stance to explore the many value systems embedded in language, tracing the legacy of colonialism and its resistance through the words people use. Translation sits at the heart of my practice as a way to chart the movement of power across language, landscapes and bodies. This approach extends translation beyond seamless transposition from one language to another, and embraces it as a messy encounter through which cultural, political, economic and ecological spheres come into contact and reshape on another.
